Large appliances: Require a $25 White Goods Sticker per appliance, purchased at the DPW on Franey Road, at City Hall, or online. You also need to schedule pickup through 311. Appliances with Freon — refrigerators, AC units, dehumidifiers — must have the refrigerant removed by a certified technician before the city will accept them.

Mattresses and box springs: As of February 1, 2026, Somerville charges $55 per mattress or box spring. You need to buy a Disposal Sticker in advance and call 311 to schedule. The program only applies to buildings with six or fewer units. Buildings with seven or more units are completely excluded — private hauling is legally required.

Construction debris: Not collected under any circumstances. Renovation waste, drywall, lumber, tile, and demo materials all require a private hauler. No exceptions.

Electronics: Drop-off only at the DPW yard on Franey Road on weekdays. The city does not pick up electronics curbside.
