Getting rid of an appliance in Malden is more complicated than most people expect. The city requires advance DPW scheduling for appliance pickup — and appliances containing refrigerants (refrigerators, freezers, AC units, dehumidifiers) must have the refrigerant removed by a certified technician before the city will accept them at the curb. Skip that step and the appliance stays on your sidewalk until you sort it out. Buildings with more than six units don't qualify for city residential appliance pickup at all — private haulers only.
We skip the entire process. We come inside your Malden property, lift the appliance from wherever it sits, and haul it away the same day. No DPW scheduling. No refrigerant technician to coordinate. No getting it outside yourself. One call or one text and it's handled.
What we remove:
Refrigerators & Freezers
The most common call we get: someone bought a new fridge from Home Depot or Best Buy, the delivery crew brought the new one in — and left the old one sitting in the kitchen because removal wasn't included, or they couldn't get it down the basement stairs. Now you have two refrigerators and no room to open the oven. We've walked into that exact situation in Maplewood kitchens, Oak Grove three-families, and Malden Center condos more times than we can count. We carry the old one out from wherever it is — kitchen floor, basement, back porch — and it's gone. MassDEP-compliant refrigerant handling included. Starts at $120.
Washers & Dryers
New washer shows up. The installer hooks it up, looks at the old one sitting next to it, and says they don't do removal. Now you have two washing machines in a laundry room built for one. Or the old dryer is at the bottom of a narrow basement staircase in a Bellrock two-family and the delivery crew wouldn't touch it. We carry it out from wherever it landed. Malden's older triple-deckers in Edgeworth and along the Pleasant Street corridor have basement laundry at the bottom of staircases built before anyone owned a front-loading washer. That's a normal job for us. Starts at $120.
Stoves & Ovens
New stove gets delivered. Old one gets pushed to the side of the kitchen because the delivery crew doesn't haul. It sits there for a week while you cook around it and wonder who's supposed to take it. We come inside, carry it out, and recycle it properly. Gas appliances need to be disconnected by a licensed plumber before we arrive — we handle everything after that. If you're not sure about the disconnection, call us and we'll walk you through what needs to happen first. Starts at $120.
Dishwashers
Built-in dishwasher swapped out during a kitchen renovation. The contractor pulled the old one and left it in the garage or on the back porch because disposal wasn't in the quote. We pick up contractor-displaced appliances regularly from Malden homes mid-renovation. One less thing to deal with while the kitchen is torn apart. Starts at $120.
Air Conditioners & Window Units
End of summer, the window AC comes out and goes into the basement or closet. A few years later there are three of them down there and none of them work anymore. Or a building in Malden Center just upgraded to central air and there are six window units that need to go. We take them all. MassDEP-compliant refrigerant handling on every unit. Starts at $120.
Dehumidifiers
Runs all summer in the basement near Fellsmere Pond or the lower streets near the Malden River. Motor burns out. The replacement shows up and the old one is 60 lbs of dead weight sitting on the basement floor. We come get it — you don't drag it up the stairs. One of our most common single-appliance calls from Malden's older homes. Starts at $120.
Water Heaters
Plumber installs the new water heater and leaves the old tank in the basement. It happens constantly. The plumber's job was installation, not hauling. The old tank is 150 lbs of steel and sitting exactly where the plumber left it. We pick up contractor-left appliances and equipment from Malden basements regularly. Starts at $120.
Multiple Appliances
Full kitchen renovation in a Maplewood colonial — fridge, stove, and dishwasher all coming out at once. Or a landlord turning over a unit near Oak Grove where the tenant left a washer, dryer, and broken mini-fridge. We price the whole job as one job, one trip, one price. Text a photo of everything and we send back a number in minutes — not a price range, an actual number.
The situation we see constantly in Malden:
New appliance delivered. Old one stuck.
Delivery crews for Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's, and most appliance stores will haul your old appliance away — but only if it's already accessible. Already in the kitchen, already at the top of the stairs, already uninstalled. If it's in the basement, if it's hardwired, if it's at the bottom of a staircase they don't want to navigate — they leave it. That's when people call us.
The other version of the same problem: the delivery crew says they'll take the old one, then backs out when they see the stairs. Happens all the time in Malden's triple-deckers and older two-families in Edgeworth, Bellrock, and along the Broadway corridor. The new appliance goes in, the old one stays, and now you're calling around trying to figure out who will actually come inside and carry it out.
That's us. We go inside. We carry it out from wherever it is. If it's at the bottom of a Maplewood basement staircase or pushed into the corner of a West End utility room, it doesn't matter. We come prepared for the job.

Why the city process doesn't work for most Malden appliance situations:
You need it gone today. Malden's DPW requires advance scheduling — no same-day. The new appliance is already in. The old one needs to go now. We can usually be there the same day you call, before 2PM.
You're in a building with more than six units. City residential appliance pickup stops at six units. Buildings with seven or more — a large portion of Malden's multifamily stock near Malden Center and Oak Grove — must use private haulers. We service all building types.
Your appliance contains refrigerant. Refrigerators, freezers, AC units, and dehumidifiers require certified refrigerant removal before the city will accept them. We handle this as part of the job — MassDEP compliant on every unit, no separate technician to arrange.
The delivery crew left it somewhere the city won't reach. City pickup means curbside. If the delivery crew left your old fridge in the basement or the old washer in the laundry room, the city won't go get it. We will.
You're a landlord. Tenant moved out, left appliances. Cleaning crew starts tomorrow. We can usually be there the same day you call. One text, one price, unit is clear.
