Getting rid of an appliance in Medford costs more than most people expect before they call us.
Medford contracts with Waste Management for appliance and bulk item pickup. White goods — refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, AC units, dehumidifiers, lawnmowers, exercise equipment — cost $26.91 per item for curbside collection. Televisions and monitors cost $41.40 each. You contact WM directly at 1-800-972-4545 to pay and schedule. Appliances are picked up on Tuesdays only. You still have to get the item to the curb yourself.
Miss that Tuesday window and you wait a full week.
If you're in a building with more than a couple of items — clearing out a basement, turning over a rental unit, doing a kitchen renovation — WM's curbside service isn't set up for that. They handle one or two items per scheduled pickup, not full hauls.
We skip the entire process. We come inside your Medford home, carry the appliance out from wherever it sits, and haul it away the same day you call. No WM account. No Tuesday wait. No $26.91 per item. One price before we start, everything out in one trip.
Same-day when you call before 2PM. Starts at $120
What we remove:
Refrigerators & Freezers
Old refrigerators, chest freezers, upright freezers, and mini-fridges — out of the kitchen, the basement, the garage. The most common call we get: a new fridge just got delivered and the crew left the old one because the basement stairs weren't part of the deal. We carry it out from wherever it landed. MassDEP-compliant refrigerant recovery included. Starts at $120.
Washers & Dryers
New washer arrives. Installer hooks it up and tells you the old one isn't their problem. Now you have two machines in a laundry room built for one. Medford's older two-families and triple-deckers — particularly in the Hillside area near Tufts and the dense residential blocks around Medford Square — often have laundry in the basement at the bottom of a narrow staircase. We've done this job in every neighborhood in the city. Starts at $120.
Stoves & Ovens
Gas and electric stoves removed from Medford kitchens. Delivery crew pushed the old one to the side of the kitchen and left. It sits there while you cook around it. We come inside, carry it out. Gas appliances need to be disconnected by a plumber before we arrive — we handle everything after that. Starts at $120.
Dishwashers
Contractor pulled the old one during a kitchen renovation and left it in the garage or on the back porch. We pick up contractor-displaced appliances from Medford homes regularly. Starts at $120.
Air Conditioners & Window Units
Summer ends, the window AC comes out of the window and goes into the basement. Three years later there are four of them down there and none of them work. Or a Medford building near Wellington just upgraded to central air and there are six window units that need to go. We take them all in one trip. MassDEP-compliant refrigerant handling on every unit. Starts at $120.
Dehumidifiers
One of the most common single-appliance calls we get from Medford — older homes near the Mystic River, the lower streets in Wellington, and the basements throughout the Hillside area run wet. Dehumidifiers run constantly and eventually burn out. The replacement shows up, the old one is 60 lbs of dead weight on the basement floor, and nobody wants to drag it up the stairs. We come get it. Starts at $120.
Water Heaters
Plumber installs the new tank and leaves the old one in the basement. That's the job they were paid for. The old tank is 150 lbs of steel sitting exactly where the plumber left it. We pick up contractor-left appliances from Medford basements regularly. Starts at $120.
Exercise Equipment
Treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, weight sets — these cost $26.91 each under Medford's WM program, and you still have to get them to the curb yourself. Most people can't move a 300-lb treadmill out of a basement without help. We carry it out from wherever it is. Starts at $120.
Multiple Appliances
Kitchen renovation on Boston Ave, or a rental unit near Wellington Circle turning over between tenants? We price multi-appliance jobs as one job — not per item. WM charges $26.91 per appliance. Three appliances is over $80 in scheduling fees before anyone has moved anything — and Tuesdays only. Text a photo of everything and we send back one price in minutes
Why the WM process fails most Medford situations
You need it gone today — not next Tuesday.
The delivery crew dropped off your new appliance and the old one needs to go now. WM doesn't do same-day. Call us before 2PM and we can usually be there the same day.
You can't get it to the curb yourself.
WM curbside means the appliance has to be outside. A second-floor washer, a basement chest freezer, a treadmill in a finished basement — these aren't items most people can move alone. We carry everything from inside your home.
You have more than one or two items.
WM is built for one-off pickups, not full hauls. If you're clearing out a basement in West Medford or doing a full kitchen renovation in the Hillside area, calling WM for four separate Tuesday pickups over four weeks isn't realistic. We come once, take everything.
You're a landlord.
Tenant moved out of a unit near Tufts and left a washer, dryer, and broken fridge. Your cleaning crew starts tomorrow. We can usually be there the same day you call. One text, one price, unit is clear.
The delivery crew backed out at the door.
Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's — their haul-away service works when the appliance is accessible. When they see a cast iron-railed staircase in a West Medford colonial or a tight back staircase in a Medford Hillside triple-decker, they leave. We don't.
Where we work in Medford every week
Medford Square & Downtown
The streets around Medford Square — Main Street, Riverside Ave, the blocks near the Chevalier Theatre and the Condon Shell — are a mix of older multifamilies and condo conversions. High rental turnover near the Green Line stations. Appliance hauls and landlord turnovers are constant here.
Medford Hillside & Tufts University Area
The Hillside neighborhood runs along Boston Avenue and College Avenue near the Tufts campus. Dense triple-deckers, walk-ups, and older two-families with basement laundry and tight staircases. Tufts move-out season in May and August fills these streets. We run hauls through the Hillside every week. When a delivery crew looks at a Hillside staircase and backs out, this is the call that comes to us.
West Medford
West Medford runs along the Mystic River toward the Arlington and Winchester borders. Colonial revival homes on tree-lined streets, the 50-acre Brooks Estate at 275 Grove Street, Mystic Lakes State Park, and the West Medford commuter rail station at the corner of High and Playstead. These are larger homes with bigger basements — and bigger basements hold more appliances over time. Estate cleanouts and full basement hauls in West Medford regularly involve refrigerators, freezers, and exercise equipment that have been down there for years. The houses near Bistro 5 on High Street and the blocks toward Winchester — these are our most common West Medford appliance calls.
Wellington
Wellington sits around Wellington Circle on the Everett border, anchored by the Wellington Orange Line station. Wellington Woods at 320 Middlesex Ave has newer luxury condos with high unit turnover. Wellington Arms is a large complex with consistent appliance haul volume. The denser residential streets between Riverside Ave and the Malden River have older housing stock with basement laundry that fills up with replaced appliances. We're in Wellington every week.
Lawrence Estates
Lawrence Estates is one of Medford's most established neighborhoods — tree-lined streets, vintage colonials, seven miles from Boston near the Middlesex Fells Reservation. These homes have been in the same families for decades in some cases. When a kitchen gets updated or an estate gets cleared, there's usually more than one appliance coming out. Estate cleanouts and multi-appliance hauls are the most common calls from Lawrence Estates.
Glenwood
Glenwood is one of the densest neighborhoods in Medford — around 3,000 people in 0.2 square miles along the Somerville border. Small to medium single-family homes and apartment complexes packed together. High rental turnover, constant move-outs, appliance hauls from tight spaces with no alley access. We navigate Glenwood's parking restrictions regularly.
North Medford & Middlesex Fells Area
North Medford borders the Middlesex Fells Reservation — larger lots, more suburban character, bigger homes with more storage. Appliance hauls and garage cleanouts from North Medford tend to be larger jobs: basements that hold two or three generations of appliances, garages with exercise equipment that never made it back upstairs.
We serve all of Medford — zip code 02155.
