Junk Removal in North Cambridge, MA — Same-Day Service

Need to get rid of furniture, appliances or junk in North Cambridge? Text or call 781 267 5966

We respond in minutes.

Our truck leaves Somerville every morning. That puts us about ten minutes from Rindge Avenue, and we run jobs through North Cambridge every week — Massachusetts Avenue from Porter Square to the Arlington line, Rindge Ave, Sherman Street, Walden Street, the streets off Alewife Brook Parkway.  North Cambridge has some of the oldest housing stock in Cambridge. 68.7% of homes here were built before 1940. That means cast iron boilers, deep basements, narrow stairwells, and thirty years of stored items in spaces the city truck will never reach. We go inside, carry it all out, and haul it away. You don't move a thing.  Same-day when you call before 2PM. Starts at $120.

What We Remove in North Cambridge

Furniture Removal

Sofas, sectionals, bed frames, dressers, dining tables, recliners, bookcases — carried out from any floor, any building type. North Cambridge has older triple-deckers on Walden and Sherman Streets, mid-century walk-ups along Rindge Ave, and newer high-rise condos near Alewife. We've worked in all of them. You don't move a thing. Starts at $120.

Appliance Removal

Refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, AC units, freezers — lifted from wherever they sit. Cambridge charges $25 per appliance for curbside pickup, requires you to move it outside yourself, and makes you schedule 24 hours in advance. Refrigerators need the doors removed before curbside placement. High-rise buildings on Rindge Ave — including Rindge Towers and Jefferson Park — are cut out of the city program entirely and must use private haulers. We come inside, carry the appliance out from any floor, and handle proper recycling. No permit. No scheduling. No curbside dragging. Starts at $120.

Mattress Disposal

Massachusetts banned mattress landfill disposal in November 2022. Cambridge offers free recycling through UTEC, but it requires 1–2 weeks of scheduling and you must have the mattress at the curb by 7:00 AM. They won't come inside. During September 1st lease turnover season, UTEC books up weeks out. We pick up same-day, come inside, and recycle every unit through MassDEP-certified processors. Starts at $180.

Boiler & Radiator Removal

Most of North Cambridge's housing stock still runs on cast iron. Boiler and radiator removal is one of our most-requested jobs in this neighborhood — we handle up to 500 lbs per job, tight basement access, and the narrow stairwells common in triple-deckers on Walden Street, Sherman Street, and Mass Ave side streets. Call for a quote.

Basement & Attic Cleanouts

North Cambridge basements fill up fast and stay that way. Older homes along Massachusetts Ave, the side streets off Porter Square, and the blocks near Danehy Park have basements with cast iron radiators, furniture from three owners ago, and boxes nobody's opened in decades. We clear everything floor to ceiling. Same-day available. Priced by volume.

Estate & Full Property Cleanouts

Estate cleanouts, landlord turnovers, hoarding situations, move-outs. We handle everything from one room to a full building — every floor, every item. We work with families, attorneys, and property managers throughout North Cambridge. Free on-site estimates for larger jobs. No obligation.

Construction Debris Removal

Cambridge DPW won't touch construction waste. Not curbside, not by appointment, not under any program. Drywall, lumber, flooring, tile, demo materials — all of it must go with a private hauler. North Cambridge is actively building: renovations along the Mass Ave corridor from Porter Square to Alewife, Rindge Commons at 430–432 Rindge Ave, and 52 New Street near Danehy Park. If you're renovating in this neighborhood, we clear job sites same-day. Starts at $120.

E-Waste & Electronics Removal

TVs, computers, monitors, printers, stereo equipment. Cambridge charges $25 per item for electronics curbside pickup. Massachusetts bans electronics from landfills. We take everything directly to certified MassDEP processors — no fee, no scheduling, no curbside dragging. Starts at $120.

Scrap Metal Pickup

Old radiators, cast iron pipes, steel shelving, copper, aluminum, brass. North Cambridge generates more scrap metal hauls than almost any other Cambridge neighborhood — the housing stock is old enough that boiler conversions happen constantly. We haul from basements, garages, and job sites throughout 02140. Everything goes to certified recycling facilities. Starts at $120.

Single Item Pickup

One couch, mattress, fridge, or TV. We come inside, carry it out, same day when you call before 2PM. Starts at $120.

We Know North Cambridge — Every Street, Every Building

North Cambridge is the northernmost part of Cambridge, bordered by Somerville to the northeast, Arlington and Alewife Brook to the northwest, the Fitchburg Commuter Rail line to the south, and Belmont to the west. Massachusetts Avenue is its main corridor — running from Porter Square to the Arlington line. Rindge Avenue runs parallel to the west. We work both every week.

Massachusetts Avenue — Porter Square to Alewife Brook Parkway

The two-mile stretch of North Mass Ave is one of the busiest junk removal corridors we run. Older wood-frame triple-deckers sit next to newer condo conversions and apartment buildings. Tenant turnover is constant. Renovation activity is heavy — the city adopted new Mass Ave zoning in December 2025 (the MAPS study) that is expected to push more development along this entire corridor through 2040. More renovations mean more construction debris. More new tenants mean more move-out hauls.

Rindge Avenue

Rindge Ave is North Cambridge's other main artery. The Rindge Towers at 402 Rindge Ave — three 22-story buildings completed in 1970 with 777 units total — are the tallest buildings in the neighborhood. Jefferson Park public housing sits at 266B Rindge Ave, managed by the Cambridge Housing Authority. Rindge Commons at 430–432 Rindge Ave is adding 101 affordable units across two phases, the first completed in 2024. These are high-density buildings with constant tenant turnover. City residential pickup doesn't cover most of them — large buildings must use private haulers.

Danehy Park Area

The 50-acre Danehy Park anchors the western side of North Cambridge, off Sherman Street and New Street. The residential streets nearby — Sherman, Fern, New Street, Sycamore, Garden Street — are a mix of townhouses, two-families, and three-families with deep basements. The 52 New Street affordable housing development near the park added 106 units, with construction starting January 2024. Estate cleanouts and appliance hauls are the most common calls from this pocket.

Alewife Triangle & Station Area

The Alewife Triangle sits between Alewife Brook Parkway, the Fitchburg Line, and Alewife Brook. The Red Line terminates at Alewife station — the northwest end of the line. The Triangle is entirely excluded from Cambridge's residential pickup routes. Every commercial building here — offices, R&D facilities, light industrial — must use private haulers for junk, furniture, and construction debris. We handle Alewife Triangle commercial cleanouts regularly.

Russell Field & Linear Park Area

Russell Field sits off Rindge Ave near Clifton Street, connected to the Alewife Linear Park trail, the Alewife Brook Reservation, and the Minuteman Bikeway. The residential blocks nearby — streets off Rindge Ave between Clifton Street and Whittemore Ave — are dense and full of long-term residents. Basements that go back decades. We haul from here every week.

Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Area

Cambridge's only public high school sits at 459 Broadway, just south of the North Cambridge border near Porter Square. The surrounding streets blur into North Cambridge — older homes, longtime owners, and the kind of storage that builds up when a family's been in the same place for a generation.

North Cambridge Catholic Cemetery Area

The North Cambridge Catholic Cemetery on Rindge Ave anchors the eastern edge of the Rindge Ave corridor. The nearby streets — Clifton Street, Jackson Street, Walden Street side streets — are among the quietest blocks in the neighborhood. Estate cleanouts are common from this area, particularly when families clear out longtime family homes.

We serve all of North Cambridge. Zip code: 02140.

Cambridge DPW in North Cambridge — What the City Will and Won't Pick Up

North Cambridge residents hit the same DPW walls as the rest of Cambridge. But the number of high-rise and large apartment buildings in this neighborhood makes private hauling a legal requirement more often here than anywhere else in the city.

Construction and renovation debris — city won't collect it.

No curbside pickup. No appointment. No program of any kind. Drywall, lumber, tile, flooring, demo waste — all of it must go with a private hauler. With active building along Mass Ave and Rindge Ave, this affects contractors and homeowners throughout 02140 every week.

Appliances and electronics — $25 per item, and you do the labor.

Cambridge requires a paid permit for each item. You buy the permit, move the item to the curb yourself, and have it there 24 hours before collection day. Refrigerators need the doors removed first. High-rise buildings and large residential complexes on Rindge Avenue — Rindge Towers, Jefferson Park — are not covered by city residential collection. Private hauling is their only option.

Mattresses — free through UTEC, but with conditions.

UTEC provides free mattress recycling with advance scheduling and 7:00 AM curbside placement. They won't come inside. During September 1st turnover, scheduling fills up fast.

Large apartment buildings — no city service.

This matters most in North Cambridge. If your building has more units than the city's residential route covers, they won't schedule a pickup regardless of whether you buy the permit. Private hauling isn't an option — it's the requirement.

What we do instead: one call, we come inside, and it's gone. No permits, no trips to 147 Hampshire Street, no heavy lifting on your end. Construction debris, appliances, furniture, boilers, mattresses — one trip from inside your home. Starts at $120.

Why a Dumpster Usually Doesn't Work in North Cambridge

A roll-off dumpster sounds straightforward. In North Cambridge it rarely is. Cambridge requires a street permit for any dumpster on public property — minimum 5 business days of lead time, $75–150 in city fees, and approval is not guaranteed on residential streets.

On Rindge Avenue, the side streets off Mass Ave, and the narrower blocks near Danehy Park and Russell Field, many streets can't fit a 10-yard container without blocking traffic or violating permit parking restrictions. The Rindge Ave corridor has its own logistical problem: the Fitchburg Rail line on one side and Alewife Brook Parkway on the other make street access tight.

We pull up, load the truck, and leave in under an hour. No permit. No 5-day wait. No container blocking your street. For North Cambridge properties — high-density buildings on Rindge Ave, older triple-deckers, anything near Danehy Park or the Alewife Triangle — we're faster, easier, and almost always cheaper.

September 1st, Lease Turnover & the Landlord Call

The September 1st lease cliff hits North Cambridge hard. Streets north of Porter Square — Mass Ave heading toward Alewife, Sherman Street, Walden Street, Cedar Street, Rindge Ave — fill up with furniture and boxes on August 31st every year when leases turn over at once.

Cambridge Rindge and Latin School graduates in June. Families nearby clear garages and storage rooms through the summer. We run North Cambridge routes through all of it.

For landlords on Rindge Ave and Mass Ave: if a tenant leaves your unit full of furniture and junk, your cleaning crew can't start until it's gone. Call Marvin directly at 781-267-5966 for same-day turnovers. We're in and out before 2PM so you don't lose a day of rent.
